I did my very first Triathlon this year. It wasn't your usual tri event where you swim, bike and run but instead it was Paddleboard, Workout and Run. So it was still 3 events and it was called Kaia Tri.
I started that day with a good hearty breakfast, scrambled eggs, whole wheat toast and bananas. I had to make sure I had enough carbs to burn and keep me energized and also at that same time getting my protein.
The event was in the beautiful Lake Tahoe at El Dorado Beach. It was a gorgeous day and it was actually cold enough up there that I had a hoodie. The lake was clear and calm, a perfect day to paddle. This was the first event and I was looking forward to this the most. I started off the pretty well and lead the pack. It was a 1 mile paddle and I felt great! After this, we went on to do the beach workout. It consisted of weighted walking lunges, push-ups, squats and kettlebell swings. I must admit, at this point I was really winded from my hard paddle but I kept going and pushed myself even more. Then it was the 8k run. I run, but I don't necessarily call myself a runner so this event was the one I was most worried about especially with the elevation change. I was still the leader at this point but at the last 2 miles, 2 girls passed me and I had nothing left in me to try to catch up with them. Don't get me wrong, I am a very competitive person but it was also important for me to finish, and finish strong.
So, I finished third place in my VERY FIRST Triathlon. Not bad for being a newbie, right? I was a little disappointed that I wasn't able to finish first but when all is said is done, the most important thing on that day was that I reached a GOAL. And I could not be any happier at that moment.
